本博士论文在自1946年原出版以来所做出的发现与进展的背景下，对爱丁顿《基本理论》(有时被称为其“统计”理论)的前六章进行了深入分析。特别地，该分析聚焦于量子力学与量子场论基础之背景。分析结果阐明了若干新颖的方法与技术，尽管并非总是正确，但或可对量子基础未来的研究有所启发甚至有用。
