M83极端外缘盘的近期星形成

使用Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX)的紫外成像揭示了M83极端外缘盘中大量紫外亮星际复合体,径向延伸至HII区域主要检测半径(R_HII = 5.1'或6.6 kpc)的约4倍处。这些源通常与M83扭曲外缘盘中的大尺度HI结构相关联,分布在分子ISM尚未检测到的 galactocentric 半径处。我们测量了这些星际复合体的性质,包括FUV和NUV 星 magnitudes 以及局部气体面积密度。只有部分外缘盘紫外源在H-alpha 成像中检测到相应的HII区域,这与包含混合年龄的样本相符,其中一些源年龄仅为几百万年,而另一些则年龄约为10^8年。
