印度中微子观测站(INO)的ICAL探测器的物理潜力

即将建成的位于印度中微子观测站(INO)的50 kt磁化铁量能器(ICAL)探测器旨在广泛能量和路径长度范围内分别研究大气中微子和反中微子。该实验的主要焦点是通过观测多GeV范围内大气中微子的能量和天顶角依赖性来探索地球物质效应。这项研究对于解决中微子振荡物理中的一些突出问题至关重要,包括中微子质量层级这一基本问题。在本文中,我们给出了根据真实探测器模拟得到的该探测器的物理潜力。我们描述了模拟框架、探测器中的中微子相互作用以及探测器对穿过它的粒子的预期响应。ICAL探测器能够高精度地确定μ子的能量和方向,此外,其对多GeV强子的灵敏度显著扩大了其物理可达范围。它的电荷识别能力,以及由此区分中微子与反中微子的能力,使其成为确定中微子质量层级的高效探测器。在本报告中,我们概述了在ICAL上确定中微子质量层级和精确测量大气中微子混合参数的分析,并给出了探测器在10年运行时间内的预期物理可达范围。我们还探讨了ICAL探测新物理情景(如CPT破坏和磁单极子存在)的潜力。
