在长期以来的假设——配对波函数属于点群的E表示——下，解释了非常规超导体UPt的相图。该理论的主要反对意见是，当沿c轴施加磁场时，它与实验相图不符。通过对自由能的仔细分析，表明这一反对意见是不正确的。这种单重态理论还解释了上临界场曲线中不寻常的各向异性，这种各向异性通常被认为表明三重态配对函数。
