脉冲散裂源中高能本底的克服

摘要
中子散射设施中的仪器本底直接影响用户所进行科学测量的质量与效率。脉冲散裂中子源处的部分本底是由质子束轰击散裂靶时发射的高能粒子引起,并与其时间相关。这一瞬时脉冲最终产生一个信号,由于时间相关特性,该信号对于一部分仪器和测量可能极具问题,且与反应堆源产生的信号不同。已在 SNS (ORNL, Oak Ridge, TN, USA) 和 SINQ (PSI, Villigen, Switzerland) 对这类本底进行了测量。结果发现本底水平相较于自然本底通常较低。然而,在某些条件下,极低强度的高能粒子已被发现对仪器性能有害。鉴于仪器性能通常以 S/N(信噪比)表征,本底的改善既能提升仪器性能,同时也能带来显著的成本节约。本文提出一种系统的整体方法来提高这方面的有效性。仪器性能将随之受益。
