某些星团中存在复杂恒星种群的现象对恒星形成的理解提出了挑战。例如，猎户座大星云（ONC）或 Sigma Orionis 星团容纳了比年轻恒星主体年老得多的恒星。大质量星团（如 omega Cen、G1、M54）显示出对应于具有较大年龄差距的不同恒星种群的金属丰度弥散。我们表明：(i) 在星团形成期间可以捕获场星；(ii) 超大质量球状星团可以从长期嵌入的星际介质中吸积气体并重启恒星形成。
