我们考虑了具有四代标准模型的中微子部分。虽然三种轻中微子可以通过多种机制（有或无新的中性费米子参与）获得质量，但第四代中微子至少需要一种新的相对较轻的右手中微子。如果轻子数不守恒，该中微子必须具有 Majorana 质量项，其大小取决于轻子数破坏的底层机制。第四代中微子的 Majorana 质量会对轻中微子质量诱发相对较大的双圈贡献，甚至可能超过宇宙学限制。这为第四代中微子的质量参数和混合设定了严格的限制。
