14 年时间跨度内对 Markarian 421 的 TeV 伽马射线观测

摘要
利用 Whipple 10 米望远镜,研究了耀变体 Markarian 421 在 14 年时间跨度内 TeV 伽马射线的变异性。结果表明,其流量变化的动态范围很大,且与 X 射线中的动态范围相似。在一些明亮的耀发期间以及当完整数据集在长时间尺度上进行分箱时,观测到了 X 射线和 TeV 能段之间的相关性。主要数据库由 Whipple 望远镜在 783 个夜晚进行的总计 878.4 小时的观测组成。望远镜的峰值能量响应为 400 GeV,不确定度为 20%。这是任何发射 TeV 的活跃星系核 (AGN) 的最大数据库,因此被用于探索 Markarian 421 的变异性剖面。在此期间,来自 Markarian 421 的时间平均流量为 0.4460.008 蟹状星云流量单位。流量曾在三个不同场合超过 10 个蟹状星云流量单位。对于 2000-2001 观测季,平均流量达到 1.86 个蟹状星云单位,而在 1996-1997 观测季,平均流量仅为 0.23 个蟹状星云单位。
