来自银道面的高能中微子观测

摘要

高能宇宙线(持续撞击地球大气层的原子核)的起源一个多世纪以来一直是个谜。由于星际磁场中的偏转,来自银河系的宇宙线从随机方向抵达地球。然而,在源附近及传播过程中,宇宙线与物质相互作用并产生高能中微子。我们运用机器学习技术对冰立方中微子天文台十年的数据展开搜索,通过将弥漫发射模型与仅有背景的假设进行比较,以 4.5σ\sigma 的显著水平确认了来自银道面的中微子发射。该信号与银道面建模的弥漫发射一致,但也可能源自一群未分辨的点源。
