本文综述了大质量恒星形成区（HII区、星暴等）多波段诊断工具（演化合成、光致电离模型）及其部分输入物理（尤其是模型大气）的当前最新进展。总结了基于从紫外到红外的恒星特征和星云发射线积分光谱的星族分析。我们强调了在不同尺度（从单颗恒星到经过充分研究的星系）和不同波段进行“模板”研究的重要性，以理解大质量恒星形成区中运行的过程，并可靠地推导其性质。
