降低 IceCube 在南天点源搜索中的能量阈值

摘要

观测到天体物理中微子的点源将是宇宙线加速器的“确凿”特征。尽管 IceCube 最近发现了天体物理中微子的弥漫流,但尚未观测到局域化的点源。先前 IceCube 在南天搜索点源受限于高于几百 TeV 的能量阈值或较差的中微子角分辨率。在此我们提出一种对能量低于 100 TeV 的中微子灵敏度大幅提高的南天点源搜索。通过选取在探测器内部发生相互作用的带电流 νμ\nu_{\mu},我们降低了大气背景,同时保留了以亚度角分辨率重建的天体物理中微子诱发事件的效率。新事件样本覆盖了三年的探测器数据,并使南天发射低于 100 TeV 的点源的灵敏度提高了十倍。未发现具有统计显著性的点源证据,并对来自单个源的中微子发射设定了上限。对样本中最高能量约 100 TeV 的起始事件的后验分析发现,仅该事件就代表了与数据仅由大气背景组成的假设之间的 2.8σ2.8\sigma 偏差。
