nuSTORM 设施对轻质量惰性中微子的探测灵敏度

摘要

一个能够从储存的μ子束衰变中提供电子中微子和μ子中微子束流的设施,具有明确解决短基线中微子振荡实验中出现以及宇宙学数据拟合中有效中微子味数估计所引发的轻质量惰性中微子证据问题的潜力。在本文中,我们表明,nuSTORM 设施在储存动量为 3.8 GeV/c ±\pm 10% 的μ子时,即使在对系统误差采取保守估计的情况下,也能以 10σ\sigma 的灵敏度进行结论性的μ子中微子出现搜索以寻找惰性中微子,并检验 LSND 和 MiniBooNE 实验信号。该实验将极大地增进我们对轻质量惰性中微子贡献的认识,包括其对原初氦丰度产生的有效中微子味数的贡献,以及来自宇宙微波背景辐射对中微子能量密度约束的贡献。出现搜索辅以同步进行的μ子中微子消失分析,这将有助于检验各种惰性中微子模型。
