本文利用来自哈勃太空望远镜的图像，对局部 starburst 星系中的恒星群与气体之间的相互作用进行分析，通过绘制年轻恒星成分的年龄图并分离冲击对空间尺度从几十 pc 到 ~1 kpc 的贡献。虽然冲击气体代表了这些对象中总离子化气体的少数比例，但它对 starburst 长期演化可能具有深远影响，可能包括触发新的星形成。
