HerMES:利用 Herschel/SPIRE 发现的高红移候选星系

我们提出了一种利用 Herschel/SPIRE 250/350/500 μm\mu m 流量密度搜索红色源来选择 z>4z>4 尘埃恒星形成星系(DSFGs)的方法。我们将此方法应用于来自 HerMES 巡天的 21 deg2^2 数据,生成了包含 38 个高红移候选体的星表。对前 5 个源的后续观测证实,该方法在选择高红移 DSFGs 方面非常高效,其中 4/5 位于 z=4.3z=4.36.36.3(剩余一个源位于 z=3.4z=3.4),且它们是一些已知最明亮的尘埃源。与先前主要在较长波长(如 850 μm\mu m)和单波段巡天中选择的 DSFG 样本相比,我们的方法在选择高红移 DSFGs 方面效率高得多,体现在更大比例的源位于 z>3z>3。校正选择完整性和纯度后,我们发现明亮(S500μm30S_{500\,\mu m} \ge 30 mJy)红色 Herschel 源的数量为 3.3±0.83.3 \pm 0.8 deg2^{-2}。这远高于当前模型预测的数量,表明 DSFG 种群延伸至比此前认为更高的红移。如果高红移 DSFGs 的光度函数形状与 z2z\sim2 时相似,那么基于静止帧紫外线的研究可能会遗漏 z=4z=466 处恒星形成密度的重要组成部分,即使经过消光校正也是如此。
