星系骚扰与星系簇的演化

摘要
受星系骚扰(高速星系碰撞)驱动的星系在几十亿年前的星系簇中普遍存在较高的星形成速率,但在近距离星系簇中则排除了螺旋星系,偏好椭圆星系。星系骚扰导致星系形态转化,为次明亮主机星系中的类星体提供燃料,并留下可检测的碎片轨道。对被骚扰星系的模拟图像与在z约0.4处由哈勃太空望远镜观察到的扭曲螺旋星系高度相似。
