Stratospheric LArTPC首次运行:eGRAMS气球飞行工程实验

摘要

GRAMS(Gamma-Ray and AntiMatter Survey)是一项新一代气球/卫星实验,旨在利用液氦氩离子探测器(LArTPC)同时探测宇宙中介米伽射线和通过反物质进行间接暗物质搜索。虽然LArTPC在粒子物理实验中广泛应用,但从未在气球高度运行过。2023年7月27日进行了一次小型LArTPC(eGRAMS)工程气球飞行,以建立在气球高度安全运行LArTPC的系统,并获取LArTPC的宇宙线数据。该飞行从日本航天航行研究机构(JAXA)在北海道的太iki航天研究场发射,飞行时长为3小时12分钟,其中在最高海拔28.9公里的44分钟平稳飞行期间,最终在海上成功着陆并回收。LArTPC在整个飞行期间成功运行,收集了约50万个包含μ子、质子及Compton散射伽马射线候选事件的宇宙线数据。这次 pioneering飞行表明了在高空环境下运行LArTPC的可行性,为未来的GRAMS任务铺平了道路,推动了MeV级伽马射线天文学和暗物质研究的能力提升。
