来自 HAWC J1825-134 的 200 TeV 光子的证据

摘要

地球受到超相对论性粒子的轰击,这些粒子被称为宇宙线(CRs)。能量高达几 PeV(=1015^{15} eV,即粒子能谱中的膝)的宇宙线被认为具有银河系起源。因此,一个或多个 PeV 宇宙线工厂(即 PeVatron)必然在我们的银河系内活跃。由于银河系磁场会使质子偏转,直接探测来自其源的 PeV 质子是不可能的。当 PeV 宇宙线与周围气体碰撞时产生的衰变 π0\pi^0 所发出的百 TeV γ\gamma 射线,可提供质子加速至膝能量的决定性证据。在此我们报告高能水切伦科夫(HAWC)天文台发现 γ\gamma 射线源 HAWC~J1825-134,其能谱延伸至远超 200 TeV 而无中断或截断。该源被发现与一片巨大分子云重合。周围气体密度高达 700 protons/cm3^3。尽管这一极端加速器的性质仍不清楚,但加速至数 PeV 能量的宇宙线与周围气体碰撞很可能产生了所观测到的辐射。
