发现新的 TeV 伽马射线源:VER J0521+211

摘要

我们报告了基于 VERITAS 成像大气切伦科夫望远镜阵列的观测,发现了一个新的 TeV 伽马射线源 VER J0521+211。这些观测的动机源于在 Fermi-LAT 观测的第一年发现了一个包含>30 GeV 光子的星团。VER J0521+211 在 TeV 能段相对明亮,在 VERITAS 观测期间,其高于 0.2 TeV 的平均光子通量为 1.93 +/- 0.13_stat +/- 0.78_sys × 10^-11 cm^-2 s^-1。该源在所有波段(从光学到 TeV)均表现出强烈的日变异性,其峰值通量对应于 TeV 能段稳态蟹状星云通量的约 0.3 倍。后续在光学和 X 射线波段的观测将该新发现的 TeV 源归类为红移不确定的 BL Lac 型耀变体,尽管最近的测量表明 z=0.108。VER J0521+211 展现了耀变体在射电、光学、X 射线和伽马射线波长的所有定义特征。
