基于KATRIN 259天数据的最直接的中微子质量测量

摘要

中微子携带非零静止质量是证明基本粒子标准模型之外的物理学的证据。它们的绝对质量对从粒子物理到宇宙学都具有重要意义。本文报告了使用KATRIN实验对有效电中微子质量的搜索。KATRIN对氕燃β\beta衰变在运动学端点附近进行精密光谱分析。基于前五次中微子质量测量活动,我们得到的最佳拟合值为mν2=0.140.15+0.13 eV2m_\nu^{2} = {-0.14^{+0.13}_{-0.15}}~\mathrm{eV^2},结果给出在90%置信水平下mν<0.45 eVm_\nu < {0.45}~\mathrm{eV}的上限。凭借六倍于前述数据集的统计量,累计收集3600万电子,显著降低了背景水平并改进了系统不确定性,该结果将KATRIN的前一限制约 tightened 了近乎两倍。
