超新星遗迹IC 443中强子宇宙线加速的直接证据

摘要

超新星遗迹(SNR)IC 443是一个中等年龄的遗迹,以其射电、光学、X射线和伽马射线能段发射而闻名。在本快报中,我们研究了AGILE卫星获得的IC 443在100 MeV以上的伽马射线发射。我们在该SNR中探测到了100 MeV-3 GeV能段内明显的弥漫发射图样,其显著极大值(源“A”)位于东北壳层处,在100 MeV以上的通量为 F = (47 \pm 10) 10^{-8} photons cm^{-2} s^{-1}。该位置是SNR激波与致密星周介质之间最强激波相互作用的场所。源“A”与相距0.4度的TeV源不重合,后者与SNR中心区域的致密分子云复合体相关联。根据我们的观测,以及其东北边缘缺乏可探测的弥漫TeV发射,我们证明了电子不能是最强SNR激波处0.1-10 GeV能段伽马射线的主要发射源。最显著伽马射线发射的强度、光谱特征和位置,连同缺乏同空间可探测的TeV发射,仅与SNR中宇宙线加速的强子模型相符。高密度分子云(云“E”)为加速强子的核子相互作用提供了显著的“靶”:我们的结果表明在分子云/激波壳层相互作用位点附近伽马射线产生增强。IC 443提供了SNR加速宇宙线的首个明确证据。
