MicroBooNE宇宙射线标记系统的设计与建造

摘要

MicroBooNE探测器利用一个活性质量为85吨的液氩时间投影室(LArTPC),沿费米实验室的增强器中微子束(BNB)研究微中子相互作用。由于部署位置靠近地面,探测器在每个与束流相关的触发中记录到许多宇宙射线μ子径迹,这些径迹可能被误认为感兴趣的信号。为了减少这些宇宙成因本底,我们设计并建造了一个TPC外部的宇宙射线标记器(CRT)。该子系统由伯尔尼大学阿尔伯特·爱因斯坦基础物理中心的高能物理实验室(LHEP)开发。该系统利用塑料闪烁体模块为穿过TPC的粒子提供精确的时间和位置信息。将TPC径迹与CRT数据成功匹配将使我们能够减少宇宙成因本底,并利用宇宙μ子更好地表征光收集系统和LArTPC数据。在本文中,我们描述了MicroBooNE CRT系统的设计与安装,并概述了一系列用于在安装、调试和物理取数期间验证系统及其组件正常运行的测试。
