摘要
MeV-GeV量级的暗物质在理论上具有充分的动机,但在实验上却鲜有探索。本提案展示了在杰斐逊实验室Hall A束流收集器下游放置一个约1立方米的分段式CsI(Tl)闪烁体探测器,在285天内接收高达10^22个在靶电子(EOT)的条件下,对MeV-GeV暗物质的发现潜力。该实验(束流收集实验,BDX)将对弹性暗物质-电子散射和非弹性暗物质散射具有灵敏度,达到每年10个计数的水平,触及中微子不可约背景的极限。暗物质相互作用的独特特征将是一个能量为数百MeV的电磁簇射,同时周围有源否决计数器的活度降低。通过蒙特卡罗模拟,对暗物质粒子χ在收集器中的产生及其在探测器中的后续相互作用进行了详细描述。采用了不同方法来评估预期背景:宇宙线背景由在意大利INFN-LNS运行的原型探测器所得结果外推得到,而束流相关背景则通过GEANT4蒙特卡罗模拟评估。所提议的实验将对暗物质参数空间的广大区域敏感,在MeV-GeV暗物质质量范围内,其发现潜力超出已有和计划中的实验最多达两个数量级。
