有人提出，自旋冰（一类稀土钛酸盐）承载着类似于磁单极子的基本激发。最近，Bramwell及其合作者[arXiv:arXiv:0907.0956]测量了Dy2Ti2O7中的维恩效应，直接探测了这些单极子的性质，并使钛酸镝成为第一个磁解质的例子。
