LiteBIRD 已被选为 JAXA 在 2020 年代的战略大型任务,用于在大角尺度上对全天宇宙微波背景(CMB) 模偏振进行观测。LiteBIRD 的挑战来自系统需求所衍生的毫米波偏振测量的宽视场(FoV)与宽带能力。杂散光的可能路径随视场变宽而增加,而 dB 的远旁瓣指标是一项具有挑战性的光学要求。LiteBIRD 的星载望远镜之一——低频望远镜(LFT:34–161 GHz)采用了交叉 Dragone 构型。它具有 的宽视场与 400 mm 直径孔径,对应于约 100 GHz 附近 30 角分角分辨率。在经过对杂散光的广泛研究后,选择了 f/3.0 的焦比与 90 的光轴交叉角。主副反射镜为带锯齿的矩形,以降低镜面边缘的衍射图样。反射镜与结构由铝制成,可从常温按比例收缩至 K 的工作温度。已研制 LFT 的 1/4 缩比模型,以验证宽视场设计并演示降低的远旁瓣。偏振调制单元(PMU)由半波片(HWP)实现,置于孔径光阑(该系统的入瞳)之前。约 1000 个 AlMn TES 探测器与频分复用 SQUID 放大器组成的大型焦平面被冷却至 100 mK。透镜与正弦天线具有宽带能力。本文给出了 LFT 的性能指标及所提验证计划概要。
