Robertson等人（Reports，2014年7月25日，第440-444页）(1)声称活动引起的变异性是所提出的候选行星GJ 581d的多普勒信号的原因。我们指出他们使用残差数据的周期图的分析是不正确的，进一步推广了不适当的工具。由于该主张挑战了探测系外地球的方法的可行性，我们敦促采用更适当的分析（见附录）。
