莫哈蒂和萨马勒已表明磁矩与核子的相互作用对超新星核心中的光子色散关系有显著贡献，且与通常的等离子体效应符号相反。由于数值误差，他们高估了磁矩项两个数量级，但它仍与等离子体效应处于同一量级。看起来切伦科夫过程 gamma+nu -> nu 和 nu -> nu+gamma 仍然被禁止，但最终结论取决于对热核介质的动态磁导率进行更详细的调查。
