高红移星团椭圆星: 从地面观测及 HST 视角

新的地面观测和 HST 观测使我们能够追踪 E/S0 星系的形成历史, 可追溯至约 Gyr 的视角时间. 数据强烈支持一种场景: 星团椭圆星在早期形成, 年龄分布较窄. 达到 z=1.2 时, 颜色和亮度的变化与简单被动演化相符, 但即便在该红移时, 这些星系仍显得成熟, 红色颜色暗示其年龄为数十亿年. 看起来我们仍未能看到形成的真正时刻.
