CHIME/FRB 外延站:KKO 站点系统与调试结果

摘要

将快速射电暴(FRBs)定位到其宿主星系是更好地理解其起源并将其用作宇宙探针的关键步骤。CHIME/FRB 外延站计划旨在为 CHIME 增加甚长基线干涉测量(VLBI)定位能力,以便在发现 FRB 时将其定位精度达到数十毫角秒,这足以用于宿主星系的识别。首座建成的外延望远镜是 KKO,位于 CHIME 以西 66 公里处。将 KKO 与 CHIME 进行互相关处理,可以在赤经方向实现角秒级的定位,同时避免电离层的最严重影响。本文展示了 KKO 在整个调试阶段的性能测量结果,并总结了其设计与功能。我们通过生成全天图像、绘制主波束的角度和频率结构图以及测量馈源位置,证明了 KKO 作为独立仪器的能力。为展示 CHIME--KKO 基线的定位能力,我们对一组 20 颗明亮脉冲星分别进行了五次独立观测,旨在将其位置测量精度控制在 5 角秒以内。所有脉冲星均成功在此规格内完成定位。预计接下来两座外延站将于 2024 年完成调试,届时每年将能为数百个 FRB 实现亚角秒级定位。
