小行星 2023 CX1 的灾难性解体及其对行星防御的启示

摘要

减轻空爆小行星的威胁需要了解它们对地面造成的潜在风险。由于显著撞击事件极为罕见,人们对小行星如何在大气中释放动能尚不充分了解。普通球粒陨石,特别是 L 型球粒陨石,代表了撞击地球小行星的常见类型。在此,我们首次对 L 型球粒陨石撞击进行了从空间到实验室的全面表征。小行星 2023 CX1 在太空中被探测到,并预测将于 2023 年 2 月 13 日坠落于法国诺曼底上空。来自多个独立传感器和归算技术的观测揭示了一种不寻常但具有潜在高风险的碎裂行为。这颗近球形的、质量为 650 ±\pm 160 kg(直径 72 ±\pm 6 cm)的小行星在海拔约 28 km 处发生灾难性解体,将其 98% 的总能量释放到大气的集中区域。由此产生的激波是球形的而非圆柱形的,并在靠近地面处释放了更多能量。这种类型的碎裂增加了地面遭受严重破坏的风险。这些结果表明,在预期动态压力 >3-4 MPa 的情况下,行星防御策略需要考虑此类情况,包括规划对预期解体位置下方区域的疏散。
