C/2014 UN271 (Bernardinelli-Bernstein):近乎球形的彗星奇例

C/2014 UN271 (Bernardinelli-Bernstein) 是一颗来自奥尔特云的彗星,其显著之处在于拥有所有已精确测量彗星中最亮(且推测最大)的彗核,并且在距日心距离 rh29r_h\approx29 au 处被发现,比任何奥尔特云成员都远。我们描述了截至2021年6月首次报道活动之前所记录图像可推断的性质。其轨道倾角 i=95i=95^\circ,近日点10.97 au,将于2031年到达,此前远日点为 40,400±26040,400\pm260 au。在标准银河系潮汐模型和已知恒星遭遇下对轨道进行逆向积分表明,这是一颗原始新彗星,在350万年前上一次近日点通过时近日距 q18q\approx18 au。测光数据显示其为未分辨彗核,绝对星等 Hr=8.0H_r=8.0,颜色典型于彗核或达摩克族天体,且在34--23 au范围内运行无长期趋势。对于 rr 波段几何反照率 prp_r,这意味着直径为 150(pr/0.04)0.5150 (p_r/0.04)^{-0.5} km。有强烈证据表明存在 ±0.2\pm0.2 mag 量级的亮度波动,但无法辨别自转周期。一个与“静止” 1/ρ1/\rho 表面亮度分布一致的彗发,其散射截面随彗星从28 au接近至20 au而呈指数增长,从 Afρ1A f \rho\approx1 m 增至 150\approx150 m。该活动与一个简单模型一致,即表面物质在太阳辐射平衡下升华。推断的升华焓与 CO2CO_2NH3NH_3 相符。更易挥发物质——N2N_2CH4CH_4COCO——在升华表面必定远不丰富。
