蓝色异星: M80 中的壮观星群

摘要
使用 HST-WFPC2 在两个紫外 (UV) 滤镜 (F225W 和 F336W) 中对银河系高密度全球星团 (GGC) M80 中心区域的观测, 我们确认了 305 颗 Blue Straggler Stars (BSS), 其中代表了 GGC 中观测到的最大且最集中的 BSS 数量. 我们还确认了目前找到的最大且最纯净的演化 BSS 样本. 高星密度本身无法解释 BSS, 我们认为在 M80 中我们正观察到一种瞬时动力学状态, 在此状态下, 星体相互作用正在延缓核心坍缩过程, 从而导致异常庞大的冲击-BSS 数量.
