质量为数百万至数十亿太阳质量的超大质量黑洞常见于星系中心。天文学家试图利用射电干涉成像技术观测喷流形成,但仍受限于角分辨率不足。解析微小结构的另一种方法是测量其辐射的时间变异性。在此,我们报告了利用 MAGIC 望远镜对射电星系 IC 310 进行的伽马射线观测,揭示了其倍增时间尺度快于 4.8 分钟的变异性。因果律限制该辐射区域的尺寸小于其中心黑洞引力半径的 20%。我们提出,该辐射与射电喷流底部磁层间隙中电场引发的类脉冲星粒子加速有关。
