于利希电偶极矩研究(JEDI)合作组旨在利用存储环直接测量质子与氘核的电偶极矩(EDM)。该测量基于极化测量。为了达到最高精度,必须知道穿过磁体(尤其是四极铁)的精确轨迹,以避免磁场对极化矢量的影响。本文描述了一种在位于于利希研究中心(Forschungszentrum Jülich)的冷却同步加速器(COSY)上开发并实现的基于束流的准直技术。良好准直的四极铁使得人们能够对束流位置监测器(BPMs)进行绝对校准。该方法基于如下事实:未通过四极铁中心的粒子束会受到偏转。该方法达到的精度约为40微米。文中还讨论了其对用于EDM测量的新型高精度存储环设计的一些影响。
