南极声学中微子探测的本底研究

摘要

从超高能中微子相互作用中探测声学信号是测量地球上预期存在的微量宇宙成因中微子通量的一种有前景的方法。该过程的能量阈值强烈依赖于目标材料中的绝对噪声水平。部署在冰立方中微子天文台四个钻孔上部的南极声学测试装置(SPATS),已对南极冰层中的噪声进行了两年多的监测,深度达500米。噪声非常稳定且呈高斯分布。由于至今缺乏原位校准,已利用实验室测量来估计10至50 kHz频率范围内的绝对噪声水平低于20 mPa。使用阈值触发,南极声学测试装置的传感器在冰立方探测器体积及其附近记录了类似声学脉冲的事件。来自冰立方钻孔重新冻结和人为源的声学信号已被用于定位声学事件。从已建立的声源到SPATS传感器的声音传播蒙特卡罗模拟已用于检验相应的模型预期。根据八个月的声学数据,推导出能量 Eν>1011E_\nu > 10^{11} GeV 的中微子通量的上限。
