激光加速强质子束在致密电离物质中的反常阻止

摘要
超高强度激光(10-10W/cm)已在许多研究与应用领域开辟了新的前景[1-5]。通过辐照薄箔,可形成超高的加速场(10 V/m),并在短时间尺度(ps)内产生具有前所未有高强度(10A/cm)的多 MeV 离子[6-14]。此类束流在放射成像[15]、高产额中子源[16]、高能量密度物质产生[17]与离子快点火[18,19]中提供了新选项。对所有这些应用而言,准确理解束流在物质中传输的非线性行为至关重要。我们在此报道了激光产生的高电流质子束在表征良好的致密电离物质中反常阻止的首个实验证据。观测到的阻止本领比单粒子慢化理论预测高一个数量级。我们将此现象归因于集体效应,其中强束流在致密电离物质中驱动了接近 1GV/m 的减速电场。该发现将对惯性聚变能的未来路径产生相当大的影响。
