恒星级黑洞是诞生时质量大于 15 个太阳质量的恒星的最终遗迹。预计本星系群中存在数十亿个此类黑洞,但已知者寥寥,且多数通过它们从伴星吸积物质时发出的 X 射线被探测到。在此,我们报道 VFTS 243:位于大麦哲伦云中的一个大质量、X 射线暗弱双星。其轨道周期为 10.4 天,包含一颗 25 太阳质量的 O 型星和一个质量至少 9 太阳质量的不可见伴星。我们的光谱分析在 5 倍标准差置信度上排除了非简并伴星。伴星的最小质量意味着它是一颗黑洞。在银河系外,无其他 X 射线宁静黑洞被明确知晓。(近)圆轨道与 VFTS 243 的运动学表明,其前身星坍缩为黑洞时伴随极少或未抛射物质,亦无黑洞反冲。识别此类独特双星对引力波探测的预测率及全宇宙核坍缩超新星的性质具有重大影响。
