我们对NGC 288、NGC 362和NGC 1851进行深入的V,I光度测量，这些观测均在同一观测运行期间进行，严格遵循同一条件。我们以NGC 1851的双峰水平分支（HB）作为“桥梁”，以获得NGC 288和NGC 362 HB之间的最佳相对匹配。通过这种方式，我们可以有效地消除与距离、光度和绝对标定中的不均匀性相关的不确定性，从而获得一个非常稳健的、纯粹差分的NGC 288和NGC 362之间年龄差的估计。根据桥接测试，发现NGC 288的年龄比NGC 362年长2+-1 Gyr。这一结果也得到所有经典差分年龄诊断（基于主序星主光度或颜色）的完全确认。
