一种用于亚开尔文温度的塑料闪烁体μ子否决器

摘要

位于地表的稀有事件搜寻实验,如短基线反应堆中微子实验,常常受到μ子诱发本底事件的限制。高效的μ子否决器对于降低探测器本底并达到灵敏度目标至关重要。我们证明了在亚开尔文温度下部署有机塑料闪烁体的可行性。针对NUCLEUS实验,我们研制了一种低温μ子否决器,其配备有波长移位光纤和工作在稀释制冷机内的硅光电倍增器。低温恒温器内部集成的可实现紧凑性是使μ子通量保持最小同时最大化覆盖度的关键因素。我们考察了一种塑料闪烁体探测器的热学与光输出特性。我们报道了基于聚苯乙烯的闪烁体UPS-923A在宽温区(延伸至1开尔文以下)的热导率和热容的首批数据。光输出被测量至0.8K,观察到相比300K增加了1.61±0.05倍。在亚开尔文温度环境中工作的有机塑料闪烁μ子否决器的研制,为缺乏足够覆盖层的站点上使用低温探测器的稀有事件搜寻开辟了新前景。
