本文报告了银河系新发现的矮卫星星系,位于尼亚加座,坐标为 () (158.72,51.92)。该对象在 Sloan Digital Sky Survey 数据中检测到作为红色、解析星体的过密区。尼亚加座矮星系的色-光度图谱与已知最低表面亮度银河系伴星系 Sextans 类似,但星数约少一个数量级。更深入的跟踪观测确认该星系拥有旧且金属贫淡的恒星群体,距离约为 100 kpc。我们大致估算其视绝对星等为 M -6.75,半径 250 pc。其亮度远弱于已知最弱的银河系矮星系,但尺寸典型。尽管其绝对星等和尺寸目前不确定,但尼亚加座可能是已知最低亮度和最低表面亮度的星系。
