千新星作为引力波源的电磁对应体

摘要
引力波随着双黑洞并合的探测而被发现,预计在较低质量的中子星并合中也能被探测到。预测表明,这些并合会抛射富含重放射性同位素的物质,这些同位素可为称为千新星的电磁信号提供能量。引力波源 GW170817 源于邻近宇宙中的双中子星并合,其天空位置和距离估计相对受限。在此,我们报告对星系 NGC4993 中一个快速衰减的电磁暂现源的观测与物理建模,该暂现源在空间上与 GW170817 及一个弱短伽马射线暴重合。该暂现源的物理参数与双中子星并合产生蓝色千新星的理论预测大致吻合。其发出的电磁辐射可用 的抛射质量来解释,不透明度为 ,速度为 。功率源的功率律斜率被限制为 ,与 r-过程核素的放射性供能一致。我们在光谱中识别出与轻 r-过程元素()一致的谱线特征。随着衰减,该暂现源迅速变红,其发射可能包含来自具有更高不透明度、富镧系元素抛射物组分的贡献。这表明中子星并合产生引力波、放射性供能的千新星,并且是 r-过程元素的核合成来源。
