摘要
当主序星膨胀为红巨星时,预期会吞没近距离行星。迄今为止,在膨胀后、核心氦燃烧红巨星周围缺乏短轨道周期行星的现象,被解释为类太阳星周围的短周期行星未能幸存于宿主恒星的巨星膨胀阶段。本文报道巨行星 8 Ursae Minoris b 环绕一颗核心氦燃烧红巨星的发现。该行星距宿主恒星仅 0.5 au,按标准单星演化预测其宿主星此前已膨胀至 0.7 au 半径,本应被吞没。鉴于氦燃烧巨星的短暂寿命,该行星近乎圆形的轨道难以用其初始远距离轨道而幸存的情形调和。相反,该行星可能通过恒星并合避免了吞没,该并合要么改变了宿主星的演化,要么作为第二代行星产生了 8 Ursae Minoris b。该系统表明核心氦燃烧红巨星可拥有近距离行星,并为非典型恒星演化在晚期系外行星系统延长存活中的作用提供了证据。
