正在使用胶囊太空望远镜精确测量附近星系的 Cepheid 距离，以最终确定哈勃常数 H_0。首次变得可行的是使用 Cepheid 变量星来推导南半球 Fornax 星系簇中星系的距离。基于在 Fornax 星系 NGC 1365 中发现 37 颗 Cepheid，得到该星系距离为 18.6 +/- 0.6 Mpc（仅统计误差），该距离导致 H_0 = 70 +/- 7（随机误差） +/- 18（系统误差） km/s/Mpc，与更远处的哈勃常数估计值良好一致。
