New developments in the theory and phenomenology of high-energy scattering and diffraction that were presented and discussed at DIS2000 are reviewed.

I review some of the main results on hard diffraction, in their relation to QCD, and indicate some of the strengths and weaknesses of the arguments. I also make some suggestions for future work.

This brief review of hard diffraction is focussed on the theory of the diffractive structure function F_2^D. Some aspects of diffractive vector meson production and of diffractive processes in hadron-hadron collisions are also discussed.
