A proof is given that hard-scattering factorization is valid for deep-inelastic processes which are diffractive or which have some other condition imposed on the final state in the target fragmentation region.

This talk summarized the proof of hard-scattering factorization for exclusive deep-inelastic processes, such as diffractive meson production.

I review some of the main results on hard diffraction, in their relation to QCD, and indicate some of the strengths and weaknesses of the arguments. I also make some suggestions for future work.
