一个周期活跃的脉冲器为磁子体物理学提供洞察

摘要

PSR B1931+24 (J1933+2421) 在持续 5-10 天的活跃阶段表现为普通孤立射电脉冲器。然而,射电辐射在 less than 10 秒内关闭,并在接下来的 25-35 天内保持不可探测状态,然后再次开启。这种模式周期性重复。该行为的起源不明。更惊人的是,当脉冲器开启时,其旋转减缓速度为平时的 50%。这表明当脉冲器开启时,磁子体电流显著增加,证明脉冲风在脉冲器减速中发挥重要作用。这使我们首次能够估计脉冲器磁子体在射电发生期间的电流。
