船帆座脉冲星风云的 X 射线偏振接近同步辐射极限

摘要

当相对论性电子与正电子的 outflow 在激波前沿撞击周围超新星遗迹或星际介质时,便形成脉冲星风云。船帆座脉冲星风云由一颗年轻脉冲星(B0833-45,年龄 11 kyr)驱动,位于称为 Vela X 的延展结构内部,而该结构自身处于超新星遗迹之中。先前的 X 射线观测揭示了两条显著的弧,被一条喷流与反喷流所平分。射电地图显示星云外缘具有 60% 的高线偏振度。本文我们报道星云内部的 X 射线观测,其前缘偏振度可超过 60%,接近同步辐射所能产生的理论极限。我们推断,与超新星遗迹的情况不同,脉冲星风云中的电子是在高度均匀的磁场中以极少或无湍流的形势被加速的。
