时空拉伸与时空曲率一起被纳入广义相对论。真空对宇宙拉伸的响应被视为宏观量子效应。这种效应解释了宇宙的加速膨胀,而无需诉诸普朗克尺度。对于负拉伸(坍缩),同样的效应可以阻止奇点的形成。拉伸效应可能对各种宇宙现象都很重要,包括星系碰撞和局部坍缩。
