摘要
SPHERE+是VLT上SPHERE仪器的拟议升级方案,旨在提升当前系外行星与星盘的探测与表征性能。SPHERE+还将作为欧洲ELT未来行星搜寻仪(PCS)的演示器。SPHERE+的主要科学驱动为:1/ 探及年轻巨行星族的主体直至雪线( au),以弥补与互补技术(视向速度、天体测量)之间的鸿沟;2/ 相比SPHERE已观测目标,观测更暗且更红的最年轻(\,Myr)星协中的目标,以直接研究其诞生环境中巨行星的形成;3/ 通过提高光谱分辨率来打破巨行星大气模型中的简并性,从而提升系外行星大气的表征水平。实现这些目标需要将xAO系统的带宽从1 kHz增至3\,kHz,并将红外灵敏度提升2至3\,mag。这些特性将由优化的红外二阶AO系统配合金字塔波前传感器提供。作为新科学仪器,一台中分辨率积分视场光谱仪将在J和H波段提供1000至5000的光谱分辨率。本文概述了SPHERE+的科学驱动、需求以及为达成最终选定基线概念所做的关键仪器权衡。
