紧凑类星体射电源的 intraday 可变性可解释为由于附近中性离子介质中湍流密度波动导致的抑制衰落。我们展示了 IDV 时间序列的统计分析包含关于源在数十微弧秒尺度上的亚结构以及关于湍流状态 ISM 的信息。仅凭 IDV 观测无法消除源结构和 ISM 属性。与已知的“局部气泡”和来自脉冲星观察的湍流 ISM 进行比较，可对可能的源模型进行约束。我们进一步论证，地球轨道综合对非平稳相对论源失效，无法进行可靠的二维傅里叶重建。
