基于哈勃空间望远镜和地基成像的红巨星支尖测量已得到邻近 Centaurus A 星系群中 29 个星系的准确距离。这 29 个星系中除两个外均位于两个大致与超星系赤道平行的薄平面之一中。这些平面仅相对于视线有轻微倾斜，使得该结构的形态几乎没有歧义。这些平面具有特征性均方根长轴尺度约 300 kpc 和短轴尺度约 60 kpc，因此轴比约 0.2，并且在短轴方向上相距 303 kpc。
